[ fitness ] the science of it

During a 55 minute sweat, the heart receives a workout similar to a 10-mile run. The body perspires the same amount as a 12-mile run. Infrared sweating is perfect for anyone who does not have time for regular fitness exercise or suffers from an injury that inhibits rigorous activity.

Under the high heat, the body releases endorphins. Endorphins can have a mild "tranquilizing effect,” minimizing the pain of arthritis and muscle soreness. Body temperature also rises, increasing blood circulation. This increased blood flow then speeds up the body’s natural healing process, soothing aches and pains and speeding up of the healing of minor bruises or cuts. Using heat after participating in physical sports promotes muscle relaxation by helping to reduce muscle tension and eliminate lactic acid and any other toxins that may be present.

In the high temperatures of a sweat therapy session, core body temperature rises. In response to these increased heat levels, "cardiac output" increases. With regular heat usage, we not only train our heart muscles and improve the heart rate/cardiac output, but we also help the body's regulatory system.

As your body increases sweat production to cool itself, your heart works harder to pump blood at a greater rate and boost circulation. This provides the conditioning benefits of continuous exercise. Heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate increase, while diastolic blood pressure drops, thus boosting overall cardiovascular fitness.
