What benefits should I expect from sweating?
Sweating is a bit of a miracle cure. It helps you lose weight. It improves the glow of your skin. It cleanses the inside of your body and it's a great detox. It makes you look younger. It lowers your stress and relaxes you. It improves your mood. It raises your metabolism for fitness. It improves your sleep. It helps regulate your hormones.  It helps you move emotional blocks. It gives you an opportunity to spend quality ME time. Did we also mention it increases your energy and gives you stamina to go live a big life?

Does it help shape and tone your body?
The more weight you have to lose, the more dramatic the shaping and toning will be. Some people don’t experience losing pounds but report a drop by two or three sizes after a month of using regularly. The infrared treatments are most efficient if you pair them with a balanced lifestyle and implementation of healthy habits.

What happens when I sweat at Shape House?
When you walk in, you will be greeted with alkaline water and will be asked to sign a waiver. You will change clothes if needed and will be escorted to the “sweat room” where you'll find individual partitioned areas, each with infrared blankets, flat screen tv's, and light therapy. While you recline, you can choose what to do during your sweat... watch Netflix, Ted Talks, Hulu Plus, dvd's of your favorite transformational leaders, listen to music, books on tape, or just meditate quietly. Your entire body except your head is wrapped in a metallic looking blanket that resembles a sleeping bag. The sweat lasts 55 minutes. A staff member checks on you periodically. Or you can call someone at the push of a button. They bring water or cold towels, as you need it. At the end of your session, a staff member helps you out of the blanket and you’re done. You can decide what you do next depending on the time you have.

Is sweating at Shape House similar to a workout?

In a 55 minute sweat, the heart receives a workout similar to a 10-mile run and the body perspires the same amount as a 12-mile run. Sweat Therapy is ideal for those who do not go to the gym. It is also used by athletes with non-acute injuries who can't workout for a period of time.

Do we burn calories when we sweat?
Absolutely. What your body needs to do to cool down from infrared heat induced sweat is in itself burning calories. At the end of your sweat, you heart will have accelerated like it would after a good run.

What is Infrared Heat?
Far Infrared, aka FIR or Infrared, is similar to the heat that comes from the sun. You can’t see it, but you can feel its heat. But Infrared light/heat is very different than ultraviolet light (UV) which causes sunburn and damage to your skin. Infrared heat is within the same frequency as your own body heat.  It is healthy, natural and a safe therapy. Infrared light allows uniform deep heat penetration that is highly effective as a source of healing.

Why do you serve Kangen Alkaline water only?
Alkaline water, just like alkaline foods are healthy for our bodies. This is not the only, or even the main reason we only serve Kangen water. In the process of producing the water, which we do at each Shape House, the molecular structure is subtly altered. Large clusters of H2O molecules are split into smaller clusters, or "micro clusters". This allows for a greater degree of permiability in our bodies... we become flushed with water more quickly and become hydrated more efficiently. Hard to believe. Ask for a little demonstration from a staff member. It's fascinating!

What do I do after I sweat at Shape House?

You can rest in our Relax Room. Take a shower. Drink some water. Or some delicious tea. Play a round of UNO. Read or write. Catch up on emails. Map out what you want to do today. Dream or do nothing.

Is it important to drink water?
We recommend drinking 2-3 8oz. glasses of water before a sweat. Staying hydrated is the name of the game here. We provide Kangen alkaline water while you sweat. It helps your body eliminate toxins and withstand the heat. In the 24 hours following your sweat, we recommend drinking one gallon of water to assist your kidneys releasing toxins. If you are in the hood, bring a container as often as you would like. We will refill with alkaline water.

How often can I sweat at Shape House?

It is recommended to sweat three times a week. For those with a very active lifestyle, it can be done every other day. Some people do it every day as part of a cleansing protocol for a determined period of time and with a commitment to drinking a lot of water.

How should I expect to feel after my sweat?

You lie in a disposable compostable sheet that gets changed after each session.

Your website also mentions lymphatic therapy, what is that?
This treatment is of great support to the lymphatic system, which is in charge of our immune system. The lymphatic system carries bacteria, viruses, and even mutated cells away from healthy tissue and flushes it out of the body. When the lymphatic system is tired or not flowing properly, bacteria and viruses sit in the body and don’t have a way out. It is a very complementary therapy to detox sweating.

What does a lymphatic treatment look and feel like?
The feeling is very similar to the experience when you get your blood pressure measured at the doctor’s office. For your entire body. You slip into a suit that is connected to a device. It pressures and releases different parts of your body. The feeling is actually very nurturing.
